Slingshot: Artists To Watch In 2019

Slingshot: Artists To Watch In 2019

Mvstermind

“When Mvstermind released his debut album Cusp in 2016, he was named an artist to watch by Complex and Hype Magazine. Now, as that record's title suggests, the St. Louis native is on the verge of breaking into the mainstream consciousness.

Mvstermind makes what he calls "retro futurism hip-hop," a distinctive blend of socially conscious rap, vintage jazz samples and spacey, skittering beats. While he often employs a smooth, buttery flow, he also draws on his experiences as a black Muslim in the American heartland to deliver incisive lyrics on the state of the culture.

The artist uses his videos to represent his city with the same subtlety and complexity. Rocking long dreadlocks and mala beads, he takes viewers on a tour of the highs and lows — the abandoned buildings, shopping centers and art installations — of his world. The vision is beautiful, even amid desolation and decay, and vital for the country to witness”. —KE Luther, KDHX

Intimate STL Show @The Monocle

NEW SHOW ALERT: To kick off my series of intimate shows, here’s numero uno: I’ve decided to team up with the Award winning film crew of “Who is Paisley” A Saint Louis based short film about the plights of an independent artist who manages to go from local to global . Blessed to have a couple different tracks incorporated/feature in the film, and on the soundtrack. This show is a fundraiser for the fim. I wanted to share this moment with them. A lot of dope people are coming together to make this a magic moment for the Lou. Come join a brother as we support our film scene and hear an exclusive very intimate set from yours truly.

“I actually just got hip to my project, and I’m saying that as in, like it just hit me, as in like, ‘ok this is my project, this is the story I’m finna tell,” Mvstermind said.

The story he wants to tell is about himself, a St. Louis native born Muhammad Austin. The new EP is titled “Harper House,” and draws heavily on his personal story.”

Today’s guest is St. Louis Hip Hop Artist, Muhammad “Mvstermind” Austin. Mvstermind is a rapper, producer and songwriter who is about to take the hip hop world by storm. He’s toured over 20,000 miles; opened for Travis Scott, Chance the Rapper, G-Eazy, and Currency; and played at A3C, SXSW, and Brooklyn’s MCA Day. His breakout video, Mali Moolah, brought him his first taste of national attention when it debuted in 2016, and he’s currently gearing up to drop his debut project. He sits down with the Innovation Team to talk about finding himself as an artist and a human being, and how that growth continues to inform his work. RAPPER/PRODUCER MVSTERMIND ASKS FOR “MORE” IN NEW TRACK

Hailing from St. Louis, up-and-coming rapper/producer Mvstermind is gearing up to release a new track titled “More.” The track is set to officially get a release this Friday. (May 18) “More” is a moody, but well-written track that featured a lot of trap elements in the production. Mvstermind has garnered steam over the year, in which he was featured in a Hip Hop DX “Up Next” feature story in 2016.

Perhaps, if this song takes off, it could give Mvstermind the push he needs to blow. To check out Mvstermind’s “More” listen below.
